WEEK #8

At the beginning of the week I finally got the boolean right and I made circle perforations onto the ribs. However, circles are not optimum for this. I need oval shapes on the length.

Here is a picture of the final definition with parametric ellipse perforation depending on the width and length of each faces (division of the rib).

I made a cluster out of this to make it easier to use.
Feels good to use on any shape.

I needed to try in real life, so I bought some nice 4mm cardboard at Bangsan Market.

The laser should be set at : Speed 30 / Power 100.
I wanted to tape the top left corner of the panel to the bed of the laser cutter while the machine was cutting. BIG MISTAKE I had to put my body over the head. The invisible horizontal laser burnt my t-shirt :'(.

Here is my master piece !
I'm happy because I added something valuable to other people. This parametric 3 ribs grid was very rare and nobody explain how to get it and also I think I'm the first on of the internet to add parametric perforations to it.

Maybe next week, I can try to build something useful.

New topic. I have to prepare for this music video release. So one of the idea is to make an Instagram filter out of this mask. I modified the model, I rigged a cable. I want these cables move like a hair.
I imported the rigged cable into Spark AR. I was looking at how to make it move like hair but it's more complicated than I thought.

WEEK #7

I want to drill holes with an optimized position in order to take out weight. If I succeed, I can feel useful because it would improve the original technique.

Took me days and nights to get to this point only to realize that my way of seeing the problem was wrong.

Thus I thought about another angle to deal with this problem.

So ! My new plan is :

- To draw lines on intersections
- To draw an horizontal line on the middle of the rib.
- To split the ribs along these lines. (So I get many small surfaces)
- To get the center of these surfaces To get the area of these surfaces
- To draw a circle at the center of these surfaces with a radius proportional to the area.
- All this will give me the best position for this circles.
- And maybe later I can try an ellipse instead of a circle. It should be better.

This last picture is a screenshot of the entire grasshopper definition from the grid to the notches to the circles.
Took my one day and one night to get to this point. Unfortunately it's not finished yet. I have to solve a loft problem. But I'm very close. Nothing seems to be wrong.

WEEK #6

This week I learnt that an exhibition/party of Sonia Calico (Taiwanese DJ) and me will be held in Taipei at FINAL on the 21st of December for the release of our music video.

I want to create Instagram filters to make the project even more Transmedia.
I'll develop 2 or 3 different filters for the event.

I made one inspired by one sequence of the music video :

I'm also maybe starting a new project : shaping a surfboard into styrofoam.
When I heard they wanted to throw away those big blocks, I told myself that I needed to do something with them. Because 1 block was too small to carve a board inside I glued 2 together.
It might not be the strongest way, but it will be enough to practice !
It was also a good first experience to try the hot wire.

And finally, I finished controlling the quarter iso grid structure !

And I took a CNC class and a Tig/Mig/Plasma cutter class
