WEEK #13

Fabric lamination test :

For the waist bag, I would like to use a very durable fabric. I found 2 ways : one using cordura waterproof coated or laminated from aliexpress and one using kevlar that I laminate myself with TPU (also because I don't like the color of kevlar).

I made some test.

Here we can see the black thin TPU layer that I ironed onto a cheap heavy cotton fabric.
I think it look ok. On the right picture, I tried to rip and cut the fabric to see if it gets ugly.

There I tried a slightly thicker layer of TPU. It works also great but maybe I should have waited a bit more to really get a nice bond.
We can see I tried to delaminate it, it was very very difficult but possible compare to the previous black layer where it couldn't.

I took some weight out of the surfboard blank. I tried different technique but the Japanese saw worked the best. So I did it bit by bit as you can see on the picture.
Now I need to get the outline sharper and then draw the template of the rocker on it.

Made some fine tuning on my "visual communication pack" : better details and better font.

Finally I made the second mask work thanks to Tiago. Also it was difficult to export properly the rigged body.

WEEK #12

I started to create a poster.
I will improve it and finish it this week.

Finally back on the board construction. Quite simple for now even though it's not a normal design. I will make it more complicated later.

The following picture are different iterations of my design. I put more weight on my front foot so I made the wide point quite forward. I chose to make the last design : 5'9" - 20.5".

I did a laser cut of the pattern of the waist bag on thick paper then I built it. This was useful to get an idea of the final shape and size.

I then thought about more technical details. I thought about something more functional.

And finally, I added pockets and compartiment inside. I'm now ready to start the physical production.

WEEK #11

Last week, Sonia Calico came to Seoul for a show and discussed about the exhibition/party in Taipei. She wants to make an interactive page on her website for the lunch of the music video. I'm working with in collaboration with a group of Taiwanese developer for that.

They will use openGL library in order to make the web page. I'm in charge of the 3D content. I had to compress and retopologize the 3D model of the mask. I had to make rigged bones for the hair. And I also created the UV map.

I did it one or 2 times with Zbrush but this was my first time making it with C4D. I learned it.

Also last week I gave the 3D print I made to her so she can take it back to Taipei. I will print another one.

Besides, I've been working on my waist bag project I mentioned at the beginning of the semester.

WEEK #10

Ordered kevlar gloves for welding. A guy at Digital Blacksmith recommend them to me. It's a good heat protection, it's washable, it allows a better dexterity and it doesn't shrink with heat as leather do.

The head from the music video. Freshly printed and just sent to Taiwan this weekend.

Finally laser cut and assembled a small chair out of the rhino construction structure.

WEEK #9

I have now access to a variety of metal tools. The big automatic saw at the end cuts straight and good.

After I practiced TIG welding for few hours. Trying to play with the amperes to see the differences in the weld. I just did straight lines for now.

I also did high quality export of some stills of the music video I made.

Going to make a chair out of my grasshopper quarter iso grid pattern
